Year of the Rabbit

This has been an exciting and challenging year. Life has changed drastically since the start of the year, and I have enjoyed being a part of the Rabbit Team. I must admit that my numbers were not nearly as good as I had hoped they would be, but I have done almost 5000 more pushups and sit-ups this year than in any other year of my life. I have pushed myself in new ways and I have grown. Most of all though I have enjoyed the journey that this year has been.

As can clearly be seen by my numbers though, I have struggled to meet the physical goals for the I Ho Chuan team. So, this past weekend I picked up a weight bench, and some dumbbells. I don’t have great upper body strength and I find the pushups to be really challenging both in terms of the weight being moved, but also in the motivation and focus that drives those repetitions. It is my hope that by using weights, I can better match the limits of my body, and effectively increase my strength to the point where I am able to complete my reps with body weight instead. I think the big thing is to keep pushing and training, and it is my hope that making these adjustments will help to set up a better year ahead.

  1. I think you had a great year! You constantly inspired me with how involved you are with the team and the school as a whole, and especially because you were so new when you joined! I have seen a great deal of improvement in your kung fu during the year of the rabbit and I know you will continue to progress since you have great drive and energy! (just be mindful about the integration of weights into your training, make sure you do not separate your “fitness” and your kung fu, if we want to improve a certain area of our training we should just focus on doing said training more, your push-up’s concerns are totally valid but maybe look into different ways to modify them instead? Something to keep in mind)
