Accidental Promotion

At Mondays class, I managed to embarrass myself pretty badly. Last week, while getting ready for class, I noticed a piece of black electrical tape hanging off of my belt, so I figured that I could easily replace it myself. During Monday’s class I received a few comments that it was a bit strange for me to have a black stripe in the first spot on my belt. When replacing the loose tape I had put it at the bottom of the belt instead of towards the center. I had made a mistake, and that led me to worry that I might have made a mistake by even putting the stripe on the belt. Maybe it was just a piece of electrical tape that had been on my desk beside the belt. I became deeply concerned that I had accidentally promoted myself by misinterpreting a piece of electrical repair as a belt promotion. While I was considering running away from the kwoon in embarrassment, Sifu Rybak let me know that I had actually been awarded the stripe and that I had not promoted myself. The lesson here was that the order and position of stripes on your belt matters, and that I am still able to come back to class.

Also separate note, I am hoping to have a backyard Barbeque and UFC night on July 29th, I’m inviting a bunch of people from the kwoon, and if you are free, you should come join us! I plan to make a lot of tacos, and to get started in the afternoon around 3 with some backyard games or kung fu and then to watch the UFC fight at about 7pm.
