I’m not dead yet, I feel happy!

It has almost been a month since my last post, and my how the time flies. In the words of Monty Python: I’m not Dead yet! I feel Happy! It is amazing how quickly life can fly by and how busy we can get. Over the past few weeks I’ve had a couple of things that I have been meaning to blog about, and I really do need to work on being a bit more regular with my blogs so that they can be a bit shorter and I am better maintaining my connection with the kwoon community.

The big news item is that on June 15th, I started a new job working as an associate developer for a software company here in Stony Plain. The job has been both fantastic and terrifying. I am really impressed by the interest my coworkers have in being involved with and helping the local community. My boss is heavily involved in the Rotary Club, and this has been the first time that I have ever had any experience with that organization. (Also, the Rotary Club is putting on the Spruce Grove Rib Fest on July 14-16th and it looks like it could be a lot of fun.)

In some ways though this job has felt very much like joining kung fu. I am excited to be here, and I am looking forward to building my skills while working with good people. Yet, I am also aware that in this particular field I am essentially a novice. I am working with people who have been doing this for years and who are essentially masters of their craft. I want to do well, but I know that I am not at that level. So like with kung fu, I have been spending a lot of time training and working to become better. I am excited to see how things go.

I was also very excited for the Canada Day demo, but then I wound up getting sick that week and had to miss the demo as I had a pretty bad cough. I saw the recording and I have to say congratulations to everyone that made it out there. You guys did great! I’m glad you were able to finish before the weather turned, though as I heard the thunder at home, I imagined that was the sound of the dragon dancing.

Now that my cough has subsided, it is good to be back to the kwoon, and I’m very excited that we’ll still get to do the dragon Dance tomorrow. I’m looking forward to it, and I feel happy!
