Rebuilding

Demolished Bathroom

The weekend before last, I began to renovate my mothers bathroom for her. It’s been a week of demolition work, plumbing, electrical, framing, drywalling, painting and flooring. At this point I am just finishing up with trim work and things should be done fairly soon. The project has taken a longer than I expected and it has been more work than I anticipated.

While I have been busy with this project I have unfortunately allowed my kung fu practice to slide and my tracking sheet is reminding me that I am falling farther and farther behind. It is disappointing to be falling behind, but the biggest problem is that I have found is that I am far more irritable and frustrated by stupid small things without the regular practice and exercise. I wound up missing last Wednesday’s class because I was in a bad mood. Then when I decided that maybe heading to class would be a good idea to help recenter and refresh, I was unable to get my car to start due to the cold snap. It was a not great day.

When I came to class on Thursday Sifu Rybak’s lesson on compassion and empathy felt like it was extremely relevant to some of my frustrations from the day before and the class was a fantastic reset. It helped to remind me that even in the cacophony and chaos of life, its important to slow down and listen.

  1. Hoping to see an “after” picture. “After” the renovation, and “after” you got yourself back on track (numbers? Mindset?).

It’s always interesting to me to see how others respond to classes like that. We all have our own perspectives and it’s a chance to glimpse someone else’s.
